India invokes thoughts
of exotic grandeur in one's mind but if you were to condense this impression
you would find yourself in the state of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is a
northwestern state of India bordering Pakistan. The topography of this
one state will amaze you. Here you will find the great Indian desert, mountain
ranges, lakes, dense forests, lush green valleys, and fertile fields.
Geologically, many
areas located here are older than the Himalayas. If that is not enough
the complex and diverse culture will overwhelm your senses. This is a state
of Rajput warriors who fought fiercely for their ideals. You will find
here Jaisalmer which was the last kingdom to succumb to British rule. To
this day there lies an air of chivalry in the everyday behavior of the
colorful people living here. You will find yourself welcomed with
open arms and honest curiosity. Due to the vast emptiness of the desert
landscape Indians have incorporated color into their lives in every possible
form. These expressions can be found in the local dress, wall paintings
and frescos decorating nearly all of the buildings in Shekhawati. The local
music and dance is just as vibrant. The many fairs and festivals occurring
every month are worth fully experiencing. They range from religious celebrations
to national holidays. Even the events of life are cause for community rejoicing,
from the birth of a child to a marriage ceremony lasting three days. God
in all forms, and nature are highly regarded by the people. You can find
worship of these ideals in simple and elaborate rituals. Witnessing this
energy given to the creator opens doors in your soul that you may have
never known existed.
The most impressive
aspect of Rajasthan is the hospitality you will find. Every home has a
special place set aside for visitors or anyone needing board on their journey.
It is considered bad karma to send away anyone seeking refuge in your home.
These are values extremely hard to come by in this world which is
becoming more and more impersonal. Whether you are an artist, writer,
painter, seeker of truth or a simple soul, the inspiration to be gained
by visiting Rajasthan is beyond measure.
